Abraham acted on obedience to God’s word which must have come through his faith in God and knowledge of God trusting that His plans are always good.

In the life of Abraham, we would be looking at two choices he made with God.

In today’s post, we would be looking at his choice to get out of his country, from his family and from his father’s house.

Why is that Abraham’s choice? When it is God’s instructions to him🤷!!! This is because Abraham always has a will, he could decide to obey God or live his own life according to his own terms.

The Lord told Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, your family home, and travel to the country I’m going to show you. I will make you the ancestor of a great nation and I will bless you. I will make sure you have a great reputation and that you are a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you; I will curse those who curse you. Everyone on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram left following the Lord’s instructions, and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 when he left Haran.
Genesis 12:1‭-‬4 FBV

In the scripture above, we see that when God’s instructions was given, His blessings followed.

Obey My instructions and you will get blessings, God can not bless you the way He wants if there’s not a shift in your life, and that shift is an obedience to His instructions.

Now let’s look at Abraham’s choice – So Abram left following the Lord’s instructions, and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 when he left Haran.(Genesis 12:4)

So Abraham left as God had instructed him but the obedience wasn’t total so God’s blessings to him could not be an immediate effect, what do I mean by this ?

Lot was Abraham’s relative and part of God’s instructions to him was to get out from his relatives as well.

But Lot accompanied him, and this delayed the manifestation of God’s blessings to Abraham, but there’s still more!

God told Abraham to leave to a country He would show him, and in Genesis 12: 5-7 God showed him the land.

Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had acquired, and the people (servants) which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the [great] terebinth (oak) tree of Moreh. Now the Canaanites were in the land at that time. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” So Abram built an altar there to [honor] the Lord who had appeared to him.
Gen 12:5‭-‬7 AMP

Which land ? Canaan !

At first Abraham stayed in the land but when there was a famine, he went to Egypt without consulting God despite the wealth he gathered, he faced challenges that made him return to where God wanted him to be in the first place and due to this great wealth he accumulated, Abraham and Lots couldn’t stay together, so they separated. This reveals to us that it is possible to make mistakes in ones early walk with God by acting in the flesh and leaning on one’s understanding, as one is still growing.

The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had left him, “Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are standing, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your descendants forever. I will make your descendants [as numerous] as the dust of the earth, so that if a man could count the [grains of] dust of the earth, then your descendants could also be counted. Arise, walk (make a thorough reconnaissance) around in the land, through its length and its width, for I will give it to you.” Then Abram broke camp and moved his tent, and came and settled by the [grove of the great] terebinths (oak trees) of Mamre [the Amorite], which are in Hebron, and there he built an altar to [honor] the Lord.
Gen 13:14‭-‬18 AMP

When our obedience is complete, God’s instructions becomes clearer and His purpose is established, many attimes we shut our ears to God’s instructions on the basis of it being too impossible and difficult to obey but beloved God’s instructions aren’t hard to obey –

Because, if we really love God, we will obey his words. And what he tells us to do is not difficult for us to obey.
1Jn 5:3 EASY

There’s sufficient grace available to everyone ready to obey God and when we obey, God gives us the blueprint to the next phase of our lives.

When I first read this scripture to prepare for this series, I thought God’s instructions to Abraham at that time wasn’t so difficult, there wasn’t anything painful in it🤷.

It might ring true to some of us but here’s the big deal behind it : No matter how big or small, painful or less it is, when God gives us an instruction and we obey it – it’s always a choice, a choice to obey God !

The aim of the choice series is to stir in our heart more love for God and how do we love God, it’s by our obedience to Him, to His instructions as they come daily to us.

Remain blessed. If this post has been a blessing to you, do share on your social media platforms to your friends and family.
